Gareth Pugh – where art meets fashion
March 9th, 2010 | Posted in Labels 2 Watch, Styles 2 Inspire | by Christian ListmannIn 1981, British avant-garde couturier Gareth Pugh was born in Sunderland. Fast-forward two decades and a bit, and the talented avant-garde designer and fashion wunderkind extraordinaire is well on his way to blending art and fashion – now with his own company in London.
Wearing Gareth Pugh is a true statement – you agree to wear a piece of art. With a sculptural touch, he blends his preferred shades, black and grey, with unusual fabrics and extravagant cuts. Always striking, and often enough a little unsettling, his designs cut an equally dashing figure on the world’s runways and a gallery or art fair between Basel and Miami.
For the current Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2010 visual motif, Pugh crafted Julia Stegner’s stunningly futuristic key visual outfit, mise-en-scène by famous photographer and SHOWstudio.com founder Nick Knight.
