Eglantina Zingg interviews Anna Wintour and Tommy Hilfiger at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York

March 10th, 2010 | Posted in Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week

Model, presenter and actress Eglantina Zingg started out as a VJ at MTV Latin America. At Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York, she interviews key movers and shakers from the world of fashion – in this case, star designer Tommy Hilfiger and the iconic editor-in-chief of American Vogue, Anna Wintour.
Marc Jacobs and Rag & Bone enjoyed an exceedingly rare and eminently welcome accolade when fashion queen Wintour praised both collections as “extremely remarkable”.

Naturally, we love both designers, but Rag & Bone have become an especial favourite and staple. Their unique, yet wearable designs and pleasantly fluffy textures brighten up any day and add a level of simple comfort to understated, casual cuts that “just work”.
The ideal feel good outfit for stressful days when you don’t feel like dressing up, here are four basics from the current collection available at the click of a button.

Gareth Pugh – where art meets fashion

March 9th, 2010 | Posted in Labels 2 Watch, Styles 2 Inspire

In 1981, British avant-garde couturier Gareth Pugh was born in Sunderland. Fast-forward two decades and a bit, and the talented avant-garde designer and fashion wunderkind extraordinaire is well on his way to blending art and fashion – now with his own company in London.

Wearing Gareth Pugh is a true statement – you agree to wear a piece of art. With a sculptural touch, he blends his preferred shades, black and grey, with unusual fabrics and extravagant cuts. Always striking, and often enough a little unsettling, his designs cut an equally dashing figure on the world’s runways and a gallery or art fair between Basel and Miami.

For the current Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2010 visual motif, Pugh crafted Julia Stegner’s stunningly futuristic key visual outfit, mise-en-scène by famous photographer and SHOWstudio.com founder Nick Knight.

Interview with Julia Stegner at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York

March 8th, 2010 | Posted in Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week

Since her discovery at Munich’s Oktoberfest, mere months before the turn of the millennium, Julia Stegner’s modelling career has taken off in leaps and bounds. One of the hottest – and best-paid – names in the business, the German beauty has been the face of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week for three seasons now.

In her interview Stegner reveals her current fashion favourite, Australian designer Michael Angel. We second her impeccable taste and welcome her support for up-and-coming designers. To whet your fashion appetite for Angel’s trademark style, we have picked out a few select t-shirt dresses and a leather jacket from the designer’s latest current collection, available for purchase by clicking the buttons. In the meantime, enjoy the interview with beautiful Julia!

Kids’ styles without bling bling, ruffles, monster trucks or Power Rangers

March 5th, 2010 | Posted in Styles 2 Inspire

Anyone who has kids will know the feeling: the tiny tots are still in kindergarten, but already want to look like their friends … who tend to resemble uniformed clones. Me Too labels are swamping the playgrounds while parents indulge in subconscious wish fulfilment – often resulting in sickening motif sweatshirts or cutesy show-off outfits. So, here’s the dilemma: while you don’t want to impose your own taste – after all, you want the kids to discover their own style and still remember suffering through all those terrible outfits chosen by your parents – you can’t let the little ones run around in cardboard boxes or princess gowns all day, either. An early introduction to fashion will help them to develop their taste, recognise quality, explore interesting colour schemes and – most importantly – figure out that not looking like everybody else is actually a good thing.

To this end, we have scoured the Internet for those elusive labels that actually know how to please children. Without cheesy ruffles, glaring bling, boyish bulldozers or cheap Power Rangers prints. And no expensive, grown-up fashion for little “lord and ladies,” either. We hereby proudly present our favourite kids labels – 100% approved by fashion conscious toddlers and their older siblings (phew!).

From Imps & Elfs for imps and elves

Dutch brand Imps & Elfs does cute, colourful, cheeky – and organic. While their no-frills designs focus on the kids’ natural body shapes, they also infuse them with a gentle “stamp your foot” attitude based on strong colours and sassy statements like “What a mess, they want me to wear a dress“, “Idealist“ or “Visionair“.

Stylish and sustainable – that’s what Popupshop is all about. Based on a continuously expanding range of organic basics and new designs, Popupshop clothes our kids in timeless classics that are easy to wear and recombine. A back to the basics approach we can condone!

Little Paul & Joe and their tale of soft cardigans and cat print tees

There’s a cat t-shirt in every girl’s closet. But how to skirt the fine line between kitsch and cute? Paul & Joe have the answer – and throw in a few lovable unisex cardigans. Unlike bulky winter knits, these work great over a print tee and pull off in a flash when the play heats up. Easy as pie – and just as nice!

Paul & Joe are the sons of designer Sophie Albou. Bold, sparkly, slightly retro, but always light-hearted, her children’s designs reflect the elements of her adult range, including floral prints on dresses and blouses, strong colours mixed with romantic pastels and high-quality, soft-touch fabrics.
